Grant Funding Available for PA Programs through the Indians into Medicine Program
The Indian Health Service (IHS) is providing grant funding through the Indians into Medicine Program (INMED) to attract and recruit qualified Indians into health professions and to ensure the availability of health professionals to serve Native populations.
To achieve the goals of INMED, activities that are authorized to receive support include:
- Conducing outreach to and recruiting individuals interested in serving Indian communities in health professions,
- Incorporating a program advisory board of representatives from the tribes and communities to be served,
- Providing summer preparatory programs for Indian students who need enrichment in math and science that is required to pursue training in the health professions,
- Tutoring, counseling, and supporting students who are enrolled in a health career program of study at college or university,
- Employing qualified Indians in the program, and
- Educating and training students in opioid addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery
This opportunity is open to public and nonprofit private colleges and universities with medical and other allied health programs aside from nursing programs, which are not eligible under this announcement. Additionally, eligible grant proposals must serve Indian Tribes outside the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana.
