Faculty Position Director of Clinical Education Department of Physician Assistant Studies University of South Alabama The Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, full-time faculty position in the Physician Assistant {PA) program at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective May 1, 2025. The successful candidate's primary responsibility is to the clinical cohort, though certain duties to the didactic class will be required as well. Both PA and physician candidates will be considered. PA candidates must be a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with current NCCPA certification and current license or eligibility as a physician assistant in the State of Alabama. A master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program is required; a minimum of 3 years clinical experience is preferred. Physician candidates must be state licensed (or license eligible) as an allopathic or osteopathic physician. This position is integral in the development of the Physician Assistant Program and accreditation. The successful candidate will coordinate the academic and professional progress of second year (clinical) PA students, provide oversight of the clinical curriculum.

Specific responsibilities for the Faculty Position also include the following:

• Develop and deliver, evidence-based lectures and workshops for Physician Assistant students using a variety of pedagogical strategies.

• Create and implement a dynamic, student-centered curriculum that promotes critical thinking, clinical skills, and patient care competencies in accordance with ARC-PA standards.

• Assess student performance through regular evaluations, quizzes, exams, and clinical competency assessments including delivering end of rotation examinations.

• Provide individualized feedback and support to students, fostering their professional growth and success.

• Participate in departmental, school-wide, and university committees to support program development and academic initiatives.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Physician Assistant program through regular reviews of curriculum, policies, and practices.

• Engage in professional development and attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training to stay up-to-date with advancements in PA education and clinical practice.

• Serve as a faculty advisor for students, assisting with academic and career planning, and providing guidance for personal and professional growth.

• Foster relationships with healthcare institutions, clinical sites, and other stakeholders to enhance clinical rotation opportunities and promote the program.

• Participate in outreach activities to promote the PA profession and the academic program to prospective students, healthcare professionals, and the community.

• Maintain records as required by the program and assist with the self-study process for accreditation • Instruct didactic courses in areas of need and areas of clinical expertise

• Participate in the program’s admissions process

• Other duties as assigned
